St. Louis Green Drinks welcomes Drinking Liberally to our first informal happy hour and mixer of the year on Monday, August 18, 6:30-9:00 pm at the Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood.
The Green Drinks group is a loose knit network of environmentally-minded citizens, businesspeople, and activists that meet monthly to discuss the green movement and how we can change the world; the St. Louis chapter of Drinking Liberally is an informal, inclusive progressive social group that meets twice a month and gives like-minded, left-leaning individuals a place to talk politics.
Come join both groups as we mix progressive politics, green living, and social networking over great food and drink. Suggested donation, $3.

Now that summer is here and transportation costs are soaring, it’s prime time for turning our attention towards eating locally grown foods. Wendell Berry summed up the connection between our food choices and the health of the planet when he wrote: “Eaters…must understand that eating takes place inescapably in the world, that it is inescapably an agricultural act, and that how we eat determines, to a considerable extent, how the world is used.”
Our panelists will give us a meaningful advice for connecting with where our food comes from and strategies toward creating a more sustainable table for each one of us:
- Beki Marsh, co-president of Slow Food St. Louis will introduce us to the roots and the concept of the Slow Food movement
- Andy Ayer, Owner/Chef Emeritus of Riddle’s Penultimate Cafe & Wine Bar in the U. City Loop and local foods entrepreneur will help us understand the challenges of bringing local food from farm to retail shelf or restaurant table. More importantly, he’ll also share with us the good news around town of how these barriers are being overcome.
- Nicola MacPherson, owner of Ozark Forest Mushrooms, grows certified organic shiitake and oyster mushrooms on her farm in Salem, Missouri. Nicola sells her products directly at markets, to restaurants, and to retailers. She will help us understand the struggle of the small American family farmer in the global marketplace.

St. Louis Green Drinks celebrates its third anniversary at a special
Green Drinks from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15th . at 21 O’Fallon
Street, a LEED Platinum-certified green building just north of Laclede’s
Landing. Owned by the William A. Kerr Foundation, this once-neglected
relic of another era now features solar panels and green roof blocks.
Presenters from past Green Drinks will be on hand to discuss the
environmental and social progress made in the past three years around
St. Louis and the world, as well as continuing opportunities for change
and improvement. Building tours, refreshments and music will be provided.
Directions: Arriving downtown, northbound I-70, exit Washington Ave.,
turn right (east) and proceed to Leonor K Sullivan Blvd. As you travel
northbound past President Casino, street name will change to Lewis St.

Due to some scheduling issues, we regret that the March edition of Green
Drinks has been canceled. Never fear though, we are putting together
very big plans for our anniversary party next month. Stay tuned!
What: The February edition of Green Drinks features the airing of a 20-minute film, The Story of Stuff, a fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns, followed by discussion and conversation.
