2.28.06 – Environmentalism and Race

Schlafly Tap Room in the Eliot Room

At the December edition of Green Drinks, someone pointed out that everyone in the room was pretty much the same – meaning white and middle class. So it got us thinking… Is the answer that people of color aren’t interested in the environmental/sustainability movement or is it that white folks aren’t paying attention to environmental action outside of their comfort zone?

The passing of Coretta Scott King, the recent police chase/beating, and black history month make this the prefect time for the topic. We are working to build the panel around two facets of this complicated and potentially touchy subject — including everything from dumping in minority communities to the apparent lack of diversity in the environmental movement. As usual, we will focus on what’s happening locally. We look forward to seeing you there!
